Water is a critical issue in New Mexico, and the state and its citizens have had their heads in the sand too long. Soon enough, that may be all we have to have our heads in! The Water Advocates do so much to bring the issue of water scarcity to the forefront and advocate for collaboration so we all may have this resource for centuries to come. I’ve been helping them articulate their theory of change and creating an ongoing communications framework.

It’s work near and dear to my heart as my mother is a long-time water advocate, and I’ve learned so much about the Acequias (an ancient irrigation system) through her and my stepfather, Lynn Montgomery. Acequias are truly the saving grace of water sharing in this state. Despite a lot of snow this winter, the trends are not promising for the usage we’ve become accustomed to. It is time to find ways we can reduce and share more equitably. Learn more at mrgwateradvocates.org.
