Founded in 1905, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching was established for the sole purpose of upholding the purpose of educators and the cause of higher education. Having spent decades in various capacities supporting social and emotional development for children through children’s media, research, and philanthropy, I have been thrilled to apply my communications (audience ecosystem), marketing, and technology (CRM onboarding) skills to the encouraging work Carnegie is advancing for education reform. Their efforts to build a new architecture for high school, along with updated higher education classifications based on social and economic mobility, are at the heart of a progressive movement to transform education as we know it. Check out their president, Tim Knowle’s take on scrapping the Carnegie Unit (one they originally devised!) to encourage mastery-based education instead.
